This real-time PCR panel that detects a broad range of pathogens responsible for equine respiratory diseases, including Equine Herpesviruses 1 and 4, Equine Adenoviruses 1 and 2, Equine Rhinitis viruses A and B, Influenza A virus (matrix), Equine arteritis virus and Streptococcus equi subsp. equi in respiratory samples; beta-coronavirus and Potomac Horse Fever in equine fecal samples; and Equine Herpesviruses 1 and 4, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Neorickettsia risticii in equine whole blood samples.
Please note that three (3) specimens are required from each horse: (1) Feces, colon, colon contents; (2) EDTA whole blood or spleen; AND (3) Respiratory sample (nasal swab or deep pharyngeal swab or trans-tracheal wash or bronchoalveolar lavage or lung tissue). If feces are too watery, two saturated swabs may be submitted instead of feces. If swabs are submitted, submit swabs in virus transport media OR in sterile vial with 2-3 drops sterile saline (bacterial gel transport media or dry swabs are not appropriate for PCR).
