Feline Respiratory Panel detects the following pathogens by PCR: Bordetella bronchiseptica, Mycoplasma felis and M. cynos, Chlamydia spp., Pneumovirus, Influenza A virus (all subtypes), Mycoplasma cynos, and Streptococcus zooepidemicus, and detects Feline herpesvirus (viral rhinotracheitis) and Feline calicivirus by virus isolation.

Samples:

Nasal Swabs or nasopharyngeal swabs. DO NOT use swabs with bacterial transport medium.
Tracheal wash or bronchoalveolar lavage
Lung tissue from post-mortem cases

Container:

Submit swabs in sterile, sealed vials with several drops of saline added, to prevent desiccation. Bacterial gel transport media are not appropriate for PCR assays. Cotton, plastic, wood-handled, and Dacron and other synthetic swabs are all acceptable for PCR-based assays. Calcium alginate swabs should be avoided.
