The RDVS laboratory provides diagnostic virology services to veterinary clinicians, industry and aquaculture veterinarians, and researchers. The laboratory provides high quality diagnostic results in a timely manner. The RDVS laboratory offers diagnostic virology services for food animals (bovine, porcine, avian, caprine, ovine), equine, furbearing animals, companion animals, wildlife, and aquatic species.
The services provided by RDVS include the following:
- Detection of virus antigen by Fluorescent Antibody Test (FAT) and ELISA.
- Detection of virus genome using Real Time PCR (RT-rtPCR), PCR, RT-PCR, and nucleic sequencing/phylogenetic analysis.
- Detection of virus antibodies using virus neutralization test (VN), indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) and ELISA.
- Virus isolation (VI).
The RDVS Laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited to perform the Canadian Food Inspection Agency-Retrovirology Centre of Expertise (CFIA-RCE) protocol “ELISA test for the Detection of Antibodies to Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA)”.
