Serotyping of Salmonella species is performed by the WOAH Reference Lab for Salmonellosis at the National Microbiology Laboratory at Guelph. Serotyping is performed using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and the Salmonella in silico typing resource (SISTR) analytical pipeline. The services by the reference laboratory are provided free-of-charge. This test is included for all Salmonella isolates recovered from bacterial culture tests performed by the laboratory. Shipping and handling charges only apply for isolates sent to the lab for serotyping.
Transfer forms must be completed prior to the submission of pure bacterial isolates. Please contact laboratory (dsbacteriology@upei.ca) to arrange for submission.
