Selective culture for the detection of Streptococcus equi subsp. equi (S. equi), the causative agent of Strangles.
For clinically normal horses, submit nasopharyngeal flushes or guttural pouch lavages – nasal swabs are NOT appropriate from clinically normal horses. For horses showing clinical signs consistent with Strangles, nasal swabs, nasopharyngeal swabs/flush, abscess swabs, or guttural pouch lavages can be submitted. For more information on sample submission for this test, please refer to the Reference Guide.
Antimicrobial sensitivity testing of isolated S. equi is an additional charge.
Please notify laboratory at least 24 h in advance before submitting herd/farm-level screening (i.e., submitting greater than 10 samples at one time).
