| Samples: | Nasal Swabs or nasopharyngeal swabs - nasal swabs are preferred. DO NOT use swabs with bacterial transport medium. |
| Container: | Submit swabs in sterile, sealed vials with several drops of saline added, to prevent desiccation. Bacterial gel transport media are not appropriate for PCR assays. Cotton, plastic, wood-handled, and Dacron and other synthetic swabs are all acceptable for PCR-based assays. Calcium alginate swabs should be avoided. Leak-proof sterile container for tissues. |
