For the detection and titer determination of Aspergillus, Blastomyces, Coccidioides and Histoplasma antibodies and Cryptococcus antigen in serum or CSF. These can be tested as a Fungal Serology Panel, or as individual serology assays.
The Cryptococcus serology test is a microagglutination method that detects antigen. Negative indicates no detectable antigen on undiluted serum. Positive indicates detectable antigen on undiluted serum only. Positive sera are always diluted to detect an endpoint. A numerical value indicates detectable antigen at that serum dilution (2, 4, 16, etc. indicates antigen at a final dilution of 1:2, 1:4 or 1:16, etc).
All other fungal serologies detect antibody by agar gel immunodiffusion. Negative indicates no detectable antibody on undiluted serum. Positive indicates detectable antibody on undiluted serum only. Positive sera are always diluted to detect an endpoint. A numerical value indicates detectable antibody at that serum dilution (2, 4, 16, etc. indicates antibody at a final dilution of 1:2, 1:4 or 1:16, etc).
